Ecology Florida has elected Jesse Haskins to serve as vice president. Jesse Haskins is an attorney who dedicated his law practice to strengthening our local food systems. He offers legal services to small scale agricultural enterprises. Jesse Haskins is excited about serving as vice president of Ecology Florida because of the organization’s emphasis on local food systems. Ecology Florida operates community gardens, seed banks, and farm to table dinners (at least when there is no pandemic). The mission of this organization is to advance “the harmonious integration of healthy natural, cultural, and economic ecologies to reestablish a sustainable world.”
Jesse Haskins and Ecology of Florida recognize local food systems as the core of the three ecologies. Local food systems are vital to our environmental health Food is at the foundation of so many of our cultural memories. And as coronavirus has made painfully clear, local sustainable food systems provide us with economic security.
