Who We Are

Ecology Florida was incorporated in the state of Florida in late 2010, as a not for profit corporation.

We have received federal sanction as a public charity, and designation as a 501(c)(3) corporation by the US Treasury, allowing contributions to Ecology Florida to be fully deductable (under section 107 of the Internal Revenue Code). We have also received recognition from the State of Florida as a registered charitable organization in the state.

At present, the board of directors of Ecology Florida is formulating an action plan (short and long term) focusing on the three ecologies of our mission and their harmonious integration.

Ecology Florida thinks globally and acts locally. We are Florida focused and planet aware. Florida’s ecologies are our primary interest, but we understand these ecologies to be fundamentally tied to the ecologies of our region, our nation, and our world. We also understand the three ecologies of our focus as interdependent; and a healthy, whole, and sustainable world requires integration of each with the others, and all together. In short, no system is autonomous, and the health of any one system (natural, cultural, or economic) cannot be sustained without also maintaining the health of the other systems. We believe the time has come to affirmatively reinforce this fundamental fact through all means and media available, and to do so in a positive, constructive, and proactive manner.

As a consequence, Ecology Florida is actively involved in envisioning, creating, developing, nurturing, and promoting Florida-based initiatives predicated on global sustainability and the integration of natural, cultural, and economic ecologies.

Ecology Florida seeks to further its mission with maximum flexibility, and broad-based, inclusive methods of support. In practice, this means Ecology Florida supports initiatives in harmony with our mission, using assets (financial and otherwise) of our organization to enhance initiatives currently underway or in development, promote commencement of such initiatives by others, and generate such initiatives ourselves.

Ecology Florida supports existing enterprises and initiates new enterprises using a variety of tools, procedures, and resources. These include: development and delivery of educational programs and publications, dissemination of news and information, initiation and development of specific services and products, distribution of texts (including online and electronic texts), hosting conferences and other public events, networking with other groups, maintaining a speakers’ bureau, referral and directory services, direct financial support of undertakings, promotion of mission-consistent enterprises, and public relations activities.

Ecology Florida seeks to reach all persons with its mission-message, and develop effective methods of connecting with individuals, groups, and communities not reached by other organizations committed to the three ecologies.

Ecology Florida seeks to develop an awareness that global sustainability occurs only through the harmonious (ecological) integration of nature, culture, and economics. We also encourage and support actions based on this awareness, including developing cooperation between groups and individuals who might otherwise be unaware of the value of such collaborations.
